Abstract: The Eastern Mediterranean Sea is a complex location for predicting the trajectory of oil spills, and accurate results are necessary for emergency response plans. In addition, the heavy traffic of oil transport vessels is associated with a high risk of an oil spill. In this work, we built a model on the MOHID platform using the Eastern Mediterranean Sea as a reference, simulating an accidental oil spill at a random location associated with the trajectories of the vessels. A control simulation is developed, changing parameters (wind, API, oil type, water temperature and salinity) to observe how these parameters influence the result and assess the sensitivity of the model. A strong correlation is observed between wind and area covered, temperature and salinity. It can be concluded that wind, API and water characteristics were determining factors in these models, with wind having the greatest influence on the oil drag effect.
