Mention ‘CUM LAUDE’ – CAPES/PRINT/UERJ co-tutorship

On July 5, 2023, Dr. Lucas Correa da Silva Jardim defended his thesis entitled “Application of Computational Intelligence Techniques in Optimization and Inverse Heat Transfer Problems”. The thesis of Dr. Lucas Correia da Silva Jardim, then a student in the Graduate Program in Computational Modeling at UERJ, had its academic excellence recognized by receiving the title of doctor “cum laude” from the Universidad de Granada (UGR), Spain. Lucas Correia da Silva Jardim’s doctorate was co-supervised between UERJ and the University of Granada, under the CAPES/PrInt/UERJ program. Obtaining a doctorate in Computational Modelling from UERJ and a doctorate in Technologías de la Información y Comunicación from UGR in itself represents an important milestone for the internationalization programme, as well as an important milestone for the Instituto Politécnico (IPRJ), as this is the first doctorate to be co-supervised in the entire history of the Institute. In addition to the aforementioned goals, the work supervised by Prof. Antônio José da Silva Neto and Prof. Diego Campos Knupp of the Instituto Politécnico of UERJ and Prof. Carlos Cruz Corona of the Universidad de Granada, was awarded “cum laude” by the UGR, an honor granted to students with exceptional performance in their research. The thesis aims to use computational intelligence techniques such as optimization metaheuristics, neural networks, Bayesian inference and others to obtain robust and efficient solutions to heat transfer problems. The CAPES/Print/UERJ program aims to stimulate the exchange of knowledge and promote the training of qualified human resources through partnerships between Brazilian and foreign institutions. Support from CAPES was fundamental to consolidating the collaboration between UERJ and UGR and to the success of the co-tutored doctoral work carried out. Also noteworthy is the financial support from CNPq and FAPERJ, which, together with support from CAPES and agencies in Spain, has enabled us to set up and maintain laboratories of excellence for carrying out research activities at UERJ and UGR.
