Working Mission of the Visiting Researcher in Brazil Prof. Dr. David Alejandro Pelta Mochcovsky

The Visiting Researcher in Brazil, Prof. Dr. David Alejandro Pelta Mochcovsky from the Universidaded de Granada/Spain, was in Brazil from 11 to 19/June/2022, through the CAPES/PRINT/UERJ project. During their stay activities were developed in the UDT/LEMA –Laboratório Patrícia Oliva Soares de Experimentação e Simulação Numérica em Transferência de Calor e Massa,  at the Instituto Politécnico of UERJ – Nova Friburgo CampusIn this period the following activities were carried out:

Seminar and debate with IPRJ/UERJ post-doctoral researchers

The following works were presented and discussed:

  • “Formulating and Solving Inverse Problems for Damage Identification in Structures Employing Bayesian Inference”, Dra. Josiele da Silva Teixeira (IPRJ/UERJ)
  • “Sustainable Technology Development with Machine Learning, High Throughput and Polymeric Additives for Gas Hydrate Formation”, Dra. Kelly Cristine da Silveira (IPRJ/UERJ).
  • “Dispersion Modeling and Identification of Air Pollutants”, Dra. Roseane Alves de Souza Albani (IPRJ/UERJ).

– Lecture

Title: Contexts and Optimization: new developments in the Working Group on Decision Models and Optimization.

– Minicourse

Title: Basic Course in Artificial Intelligence, Optimization and Metaheuristics.

In this course, some definitions and concepts about artificial intelligence were discussed. Then the focus was put on optimization problems, describing the “easy” and the “hard” ones from a solving point of view. Essential concepts about metaheuristics and some practical examples were presented. Finally, a new way of using metaheuristics as solution generators was proposed.

The course was offered to Undergraduate and Postgraduate students (Masters and Doctorate), in person and online.

– Meetings with Researchers

Prof. David Pelta met with researchers and students of the Instituto Politécnico of UERJ, as well as teachers of other institutions:

  • Prof. Hélio dos Santos Migon – UFRJ Professor Emeritus, participant in the Program for Support for Research and Teaching (PSRT) at UERJ;
  • Prof. Erick Giovani Sperandio Nascimento – SENAI CIMATEC Professor;
  • Profa. Raquel Jahara Lobosco – UFRJ Professor,  Macaé Campus;
  • Prof. Jader Lugon Jr. – Instituto Federal Fluminense Professor, Macaé Campus, Coordinator of the Professional Doctorate in Modeling and Technology for the Environment Applied in Water Resources.

In addition, working meetings were held with two doctoral students do Programa of the Program Postgraduate Studies in Computational Modeling at the Polytechnic Institute of UERJ:

  • Guido Fraga Mares Guia de Carvalho;
  • Douglas Ferraz Corrêa.

Concluding the working meetings with doctoral student Lucas Correia da Silva Jardim, who was at the Universidaded de Granada, , through the CAPES/PRINT/UERJ project, resulting in the cotutela process between UERJ and the Universidaded de Granada.  In addition to the submission of work for participation in the scientific event XXI Congreso Español sobre Tecnologías y Lógica Fuzzy (Estylf22):
